2012 Topps GoldRush promo cards set to feature horrific subliminal embeds

What’s that? oh yes, these card mocks have some imagery on them straight from the depths of hell.

Originals from Beckett:

Let’s zoom in on the top right:

What the? It looks like some pissed off demon guy is staring at me!

Lets up the contrast!

Actually that didn’t really help or hurt any, if you don’t see him I’ve created a handy labeled version:

And now the lower left:

Doesn’t really look like a face or anything at first glance, but after staring at it for awhile I was able to determine that it is in fact a collage of hellish faces twisting in agony, HELL SELL!

That’s not even mentioning the weird Beckett logo embed on the lower right, what’s up with that?

Big Hits page

I added a page where you can view all the “BIG HITS” themed videos I’ve done. I’m trying to better organize things so hopefully I’ll be adding more pages soon.

Access the page by click the tab at the top or clicking here:

Player Magname and Player DeLongname

This is interesting.

Below you’ll find card mock ups by designer Michael Romeo.

I’m assuming he was the lead designer on all the sets shown below.  He also, according to his resume:

.. Designed over 250 high-end sports trading cards with styles ranging from modern to retro to Victorian to distressed, and received rave reviews from collectors, which translated into high profits for Topps.

See now that’s a nice little resume padding technique he’s using there.  Nobody outside of the card industry would read that and think “arrogant douchebag”, because they would have no reason to doubt it, why would they?

It isn’t common that the average person knows Topps puts out a multitude of sets each year filled with autographs and game used memorabilia.  Or that there are many factors that contribute to a product’s success or failure.  Design plays a part, but (at least in my opinion) not a crucial part that single handily dictates whether or not the company as a whole will experience “high profits”.

Now if your perception of Topps is say, a one set a year baseball card manufacturer whose main market is children, then I guess the “design equals high profits” argument is at least plausible.

Also, what is the “distressed” card design?

2011 Topps Jake Break

2011 Topps is here, and here is what I think of it:

Shiny diamond cards good.

The “Reproduction” insert set is (I’m assuming) based on an idea Narz had for incorporating all those old card images in some way, I did the research for it (hunting down said images).  Seeing it being used (and other things here and there in modified forms), is pretty cool.

Here’s Jake!

2010 Bowman Sterling Rip Party vid

We shot this on Friday, I’ve been editing it since, finally done.

There are many “things” in this video that 99% of those who watch will never consciously recognize.  Just thought I’d throw that out there.

here be scans: (didn’t use all in the video)

2010 Bowman Sterling Football 4 Box Jake Break

Jake opened up 4 boxes from two cases of Bowman Sterling (futbol) yesterday.  I’ll post the best hits below after the vid:

Box toppers have these dual jerseys from two different players, this first one is a blue refractor numbered to 50 (which is odd because the rest of the blue refractors are numbered to 99)

AND GODDAMMIT I HATE THESE STUPID BLUE BORDERS ON THIS THEME! (WordPress theme)

Next we have another blue refract of Tebow and Decker:

His best hit was probably this 1/1 Damian Williams auto/patch:

He also got a Damian Williams black ref auto (/50)

He pulled two dual autos, one a black refractor (although it doesn’t really refract) and one a gold refractor.  We thought they were unnumbered as you can see from the video, when I got home however I discovered that they were both numbered to 25.

One of the box topper packs had this Dan Lefevour MAX PATCH!

Here are the highlights from the rest:

^ Blount black ref /50

For some reason there are a splattering of vets thrown in, like:

and a few other Jersey cards, weird.  One thing that is annoying about this set (as well as platinum) is the gray chrome background on all the non-refractor cards because when you scan them it picks up all kinds of dust and other things a normal white background wouldn’t.  The card stock (on the non-jersey cards) is (much like baseball in 09) not very thick, although it is nice and smooth (unlike all the weird things on Topps chrome).  When you have that thin kind of stock it makes lining up 9 cards on the scanner a pain in the ass because they’ll tend to move around.
